Within the Group, Dorton Demolition and Excavation Ltd offers clients a full range of services which include the facility for small, medium or large scale earthworks following or prior to demolition and dismantling activities on the site.

Recent UK government brown field site initiatives together with the 'Sustainable Agenda', have stimulated and promoted the reclamation and recycling of site materials and the reintroduction of the land for new build. The Dorton Group can also provide ground stabilisation and temporary works such as sheet piling, contiguous wall piling and waling beams etc.

Whether the works involve a simple site clearance programme, a reduced dig and/or ground remediation process, there is often an added requirement for an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). The EIA can be incorporated into plans, programmes and policies to provide a strategic environmental assessment for the duration of the works. Site waste management plans are also a legal requirement for many projects, and a structured approach to recycling and re-use is of paramount consideration to evaluate and separate materials for reclamation or waste.

Land Remediation

Ground contamination can be an expensive process to manage. Early indication of potential hot spots through test holes, carried out at the initial stage of a project, can give the developer a clearer picture on costs and with sufficient advanced planning, the opportunity to implement best practicable means of remediation.

There are a number of options available for the treatment of contaminated soils and ground, of which the following may be considered: stabilisation – chemical and solid; surface control caps – capping with dense impermeable material; excavation; liquid phase absorption system – activated carbon; phytoextraction; bioremediation and soil washing.

Soil contamination common to heavy industrial sites includes: polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs); polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs); volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and heavy metals (Arsenic, Chromium, Copper, Lead etc).

The Dorton Group offers clients a practical on-site or off-site solution to all ground condition concerns. The Group employs both conventional and innovative techniques in order to undertake the decontamination and associated civil engineering works. In addition, soil remediation techniques are often integrated with groundwater treatment. These works are validated to pre-agreed standards with the regulatory authorities and the client’s end use of the land.
